Welcome back to all of our pupils and especially our new S1 group.
Last session our senior pupils and their teachers worked very hard and have achieved very good results. Almost 70% of our S5 pupils achieved at least one higher, our highest score on record.
Well done to everyone. The hard work and effort certainly paid off.

Pupil Immersion Trip to China 2015
Six senior pupils from Stirling High and their teacher have recently returned from a 17 day trip to China. Jennifer Anderson, Khuram Baig, Kasia Kupczyk, Struan Laing, Regan McMillan, Oliver Simpson and Mrs Glover of the Modern Languages department made up a group of over 86 pupils and 14 teachers from across Scotland who travelled to China to take part in the ‘Chinese Summer Bridge camp.’ As well as visiting some of the key cultural sights in Beijing such as The Great Wall and The Summer Palace, pupils attended the Tianjin International Chinese College and took part in a variety of traditional Chinese craft classes including Chinese Knot making, Calligraphy, Peking Opera mask painting and Paper Cutting. The group also participated in Mandarin language classes which culminated in them sitting (and passing!) the YCT test and gaining an SQA accredited award.
The group visited our partner school in Tianjin, the no.54 High School where they were welcomed most warmly by the Head teacher Mr Wang alongside a small group of host pupils and staff. By the end of the day pupils were buzzing with excitement about their host school and family visits and had forged new friendships with their peers in China.
The 17 day trip culminated in a celebratory event with the First Minister RT. Hon Nicola Sturgeon MSP in Beijing. Regan had the honour of piping the First Minister into the proceedings. Three of the SHS pupils made up part of a small group selected to present a Kung-Fu performance. The pupils and staff from Scotland then joined with their Chinese counterparts for a rendition of ‘Auld Lang Syne’ in Chinese and Scots. After thanking the pupils for their contributions, the First Minister spent time talking to the young people about their language learning and their experience of China during the trip.
The Confucius Classroom located in Stirling High is set to launch officially on Tuesday 6th October. The announcement of the Confucius Classroom and indeed the Pupil Immersion trip have roused plenty of interest. We look forward to allowing many more young people within the Stirling area to broaden their horizons and increase their cultural awareness through the learning of Mandarin language and Chinese culture.
Ryan McCurry 6D2 has been selected again to represent the Scottish School Boys Hockey Squad at the Sainsbury Games which take place in September in Manchester. Ryan also had a fabulous experience playing for U18 Scotland team in Santander. They competed with the top teams in Europe but sadly missed out on staying in the A league through overall goal difference with England. Ryan was delighted to score his first international goal in a thrilling fight back 4-4 result against England. We wish Ryan continued success with his hockey career.
