In S1 pupils will study (1 period per week):
Lifting the Lid on Computers – Basic understanding of a computer system.
Scratch Animation- Using Scratch software to create interactive animations. Pupils will go on to develop an animation or game of their own design.
In S2 pupils will study (2 periods per week):
Computer Networks – What is a computer network and what is the Internet? Network risks and keeping yourself and your devices safe online.
Web Development – From structure diagrams to wire framing through to developing a full blown website using Serif Webplus with multi-layer navigation and rotating banners.
App Development – Pupils will explore app development using Appshed.
Database Development – What is data and data literacy? A discussion around the topics of data and big data with an introduction to MS Access.
In S3 learners study Computing Science for 3 periods per week, if they chose to. Learners follow a general Computing course working towards meeting all level 3 and level 4 Experiences and Outcomes and preparing for entry to National 4 and 5 courses in S4.
In s4 pupils can choose to study Computing Science at National 4 or National 5 (further information below).
In S5 and S6 learners can choose National 5 Computing Science, Higher Computing Science and/or a range of NPAs and courses focusing on digital literacy.
The department hosts a thriving Raspberry Pi club on a Monday after school.
