In S3 learners study Computing Science for 3 periods per week, if they chose to.
Learners follow a general Computing course working towards meeting all level 3 and level 4 Experiences and Outcomes and preparing for entry to National 4 and 5 courses in S4. In S2 and S3 a pupil will study:
Lifting the Lid on Computers – Basic understanding of a computer system
Computers in Marketing – Using computers to edit images, create graphics and animations and using them to create a website
Pac-Man – Using Scratch software to create a pac-man game with interaction, animation, sound and scoring. Pupils can go on to develop a game of their own design
The Spy in Your Pocket – Looking at how large companies gather, store and use data about their customers and explore the social impact of the digital footprint
In s4 pupils can choose to study the new National Qualification in Computing Science at National 4 or National 5 (further information below).
In S5 and S6 learners can choose National 5 Computing Science, Higher Computing Science and/or Creative Digital Media (A skills for Work course at Intermediate 1).
The Computing Department also offer National Progression Awards on its own and in conjunction with other subject areas.
The department hosts a thriving Raspberry Pi club on a Monday after school.
