Biology is in the Science Faculty.
Biology is associated with RANDOLPH HOUSE.

Welcome to Biology. Biology is included in Science in first year, before being taught as a subject in its own right from second to sixth year.

Courses in Biology at Stirling High School

In first year, students are taught Science, a varied course taught by one teacher, which introduces students to elements of all three sciences. In second year students are taught in blocks of each science, being taught Biology by a Biology teacher, then Physics by a Physics teacher, then Chemistry by a Chemistry teacher, or some variant of that pattern. This allows students to experience more advanced experiments that are only available in certain departments.

In third year, students have to choose at least one science to take up to the end of fourth year, though many – particularly those interested in medicine as a career – take two or even all three sciences. Biology is offered at Standard Grade to third and fourth year students.

In fifth and sixth year the courses on offer in the Biology department diversify slightly. At Higher level pupils are offered both Biology and Human Biology, though it is not always the case that both courses run. In sixth year, only Biology is offered at Advanced Higher level, but pupils with a Higher in Human Biology are able to take Advanced Higher Biology.

Why choose Biology?
Biology is a very important subject for those who plan to go on to take medicine at university, but is also key in allowing students to understand how the human body works and how we, as a species, are related to the other creatures on the planet.
