About me
I currently work for Global Voices as a Senior Project Manager. Global Voices is a translation and interpretation agency. My job is to help businesses and people connect from all over the world.
Left school
June 2017
Senior Phase
I achieved Higher (SCQF level 6) in English, French, German, Business Management and Art & Design. I also completed a Mandarin course through the school in S5.
Choosing my Destination
When I finished school, I went straight into University to study German and Mandarin. At that time, I decided that those particular studies weren't for me, so I took some time out of education. I later went on to complete a HNC in Administration & Information Technology.
I knew that I still wanted to work with languages, but didn't know it what way. After doing some research of different options, I decided that Interpretation Project Management was the job for me.
Extra Curricular & Work Experience
In my younger years at school I took part in many after school activities, such as the drama club and girls football team at the time.
In S5 I had the opportunity to go to China with the school as part of a program to encourage young people to take Mandarin as a language. This was an amazing opportunity, that I still never forget, and definitely had an impact on helping me chose the career I am now in.
In my senior years, I was house captain for Douglas house, which gave me the chance to improve my public speaking at assemblies and increase my overall confidence.
Skills I've developed
The biggest skill I learnt through school was how to organise myself effectively. School can be stressful at times and it's important to be organised in order to make life as easy as possible for yourself! Being a Project Manager now, I am grateful for the organisational techniques I learnt while at school as it has majorly helped shape my career.
My Advice
Take advantage of all the learning opportunities you have. Looking back, I definitely took a lot of opportunities for granted.
